- Anthropic is committing 5% of its shares to a new Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, subject to stockholder approval, with 2% more at the board's discretion for every 50% rise in its value above a baseline it hasn't published.
- With its co-founders' 80% equity pledges and a staff equity-donation match, Anthropic says about 20% of its shares will be dedicated to the public good.
- The fund is a wholly-owned LLC rather than a 501(c)(3), which Anthropic says gives it flexibility in how it gives; its governance hasn't been published, and Anthropic says the equity won't be used for lobbying or political giving.
- Vercel's AI Gateway now groups requests into sessions, showing per-session cost, cache hit rate and which provider session affinity picked.
- Fireworks widened its Small serverless rate-limit tier to models under 800B parameters, which moves GLM 5.3 into it.

## Anthropic's public-benefit stake can grow with its valuation

Anthropic announced the [Anthropic Public Benefit Fund](https://www.anthropic.com/news/public-benefit-fund) on 18 October, a new entity that gets 5% of Anthropic's shares, subject to stockholder approval. The board can add 2% for every 50% increase in Anthropic's value above a set baseline. Anthropic hasn't published the baseline or the fund's governance and says it will "in the coming months".

The fund is a wholly-owned LLC rather than a 501(c)(3), which Anthropic says lets it switch between donations to nonprofits and direct payments to "specific populations". Its first example is AI's effect on jobs, where Anthropic has already committed $200 million. Anthropic says none of the fund's equity will be used for lobbying or political giving. Added to the co-founders' pledge to give away 80% of their equity and a staff equity-donation match that about half of employees use, Anthropic puts the total at roughly 20% of its shares.

### Why it matters

At the $965 billion post-money valuation of its May [Series H](https://www.anthropic.com/news/series-h), 5% would be worth about $48 billion (dbggr's arithmetic, ahead of an IPO reported for November). Anthropic says it is directing escalating equity to the public benefit instead of to executives, as tech companies commonly do with pay awards.

### A fund the company owns is not a foundation that owns the company

The obvious comparison is OpenAI, whose nonprofit OpenAI Foundation took [26% of OpenAI Group PBC](https://techcrunch.com/2025/10/28/openai-completes-its-for-profit-recapitalization) in its 2025 recapitalization, with a warrant for more shares if the company keeps growing, and has legal control of it. Anthropic's fund runs the other way: it is owned by Anthropic, and Anthropic's board decides on the top-ups. Until the governance and milestones are published, treat it as a large pledge with the details still to come.

## Quick hits

- **[Vercel AI Gateway logs now have a Sessions view](https://vercel.com/changelog/ai-gateway-logs-now-show-session-affinity)**: each session shows the client (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), cost, models, cache hit rate and the providers that served it; send the same `x-session-id` header to group requests yourself.
- **[Fireworks' Small serverless tier now covers models under 800B parameters](https://docs.fireworks.ai/updates/changelog)**, up from 600B, which moves GLM 5.3 into the tier whose ceilings it doubled on 7 October (216M total prompt and 2.16M generated tokens per minute).
